National School Basketball Championships Silver Medallists
Posted 16 Dec 2005
PVCC sent a squad of 10 boys to Albury-Wodonga to compete in the National School Basketball Championships. They were managed by Mrs Lynne O’Brien and coached by Melissa Rofe. Amanda Rofe travelled with the team as scorer. The boys that represented the school were; Phil Fitzgibbon, Josh Robinson, Jordan Bird, Todd Kernaghan, Josh Walsh (Captain), Josh Wuelfert (Vice Captain), Ryan Murray, Josh Mitchell, Dave Lambert and Nathan Hendry. They competed in the Junior Boys’ section, which is a Year 9 and 10 competition. This is the highest level of school competition able to be played in Australia. As most of our team are in Years 8 and 9 they will be able to compete in the same section next year.
The boy’s played extremely well. They had only one loss during the week, which gained them a place in the finals on Saturday. They won the Preliminary Final and went into the Grand Final on Sunday. The Grand Final was a hard fought match, which went into extra time as a result of a draw. Josh Walsh scored a goal in the first minute, but Christian College Geelong went on to score 3 goals giving them a 4 point win. PVCC were really thrilled to come home with Silver medals. They are already looking forward to returning next year.
Congratulations boys from all of PVCC.
